MINISTER MAKGATO-MALESU URGES CHADIBE RESIDENT TO USE CEDA Portia Rapitsenyane reporting for BOPA from Lerala The Minister of Trade and Industry, the Honourable Dorcas Makgato-Malesu has appealed to residents of villages in the Tswapong area to rise up and ensure that developments take place in their area. Speaking at the open day for Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) at Chadibe on May 23 , Minister Makgato- Malesu said CEDA provided an opportunity for potential business promoters to venture into business and create employment and value for the business owners. She said with the currently economic tide, it had become even extremely difficult to secure jobs and as a result entrepreneurship becomes another avenue to secure ones livelihood by venturing into business and in the process creating sustainable employment for others. Ms Makgato-Malesu said CEDA had financed a total of 19 projects with a monetary value of P8.2 million in Tswapong South, adding that when disaggregated by sector, the 19 projects amount to 12 in the agribusiness subsector at a value of P6.02 million, three in the property and manufacturing subsector at a value of P620, 128.00 and four projects in the services subsector valued at P1.53 million. She noted that these projects have created 74 employment opportunities with agribusiness employing 53 people. Ms Makgato-Malesu said she would like to see more and more companies setting up in the country as this is a measure of the level of confidence investors have towards the country. “As these companies set up we would be certain of employment creation”, she said. She said the figures of the businesses in Tswapong South are an indication that great opportunity still exist to increase businesses in the area and to also broaden the scope of the type of the businesses available that entrepreneurs can go into. She said there is an opportunity to tap into the tourism potential of the district through exploitation of the natural resources peculiar to the area which resources includes an abundance of wildlife. Minister Makgato- Malesu applauded organisations such as the CEDA for heeding the government initiative of decentralising operations, services and activities from the main centres. She said such initiatives are crucial in an attempt to develop other areas of the country. She however said that she was delighted that CEDA is not only focusing on the main centres but also rural areas such as Chadibe and other areas.
