MINISTRY OF EDUCATION Corporate Communications Division NEWS RELEASE 30th August, 201 4 READINESS FOR SCHOOL REOPENING, ACADEMIC YEAR 2014/2015 The Ministry of Education (MoE) wishes to advise that over the July/August Vacation Repair Programme, the ministry in conjunction with the Educational Facilities Company LIMITED (EFCL) undertook repairs and maintenance projects in 243 primary and secondary schools and 73 early childhood care and education (ECCE) centres. The Vacation Repair Programme has been successfully completed so that all schools, in which these repairs were undertaken, are ready to reopen for the new academic year on Tuesday 2nd September 2014. In particular, during the last four weeks EFCL, MoE and representatives of the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers’ Association (TTUTA) engaged in close monitoring and project management of the Vacation Repair Programme. Also, over the past week, the MoE’s Chief Education Officer met with all School Supervisors who had been liaising closely with school Principals to ensure the satisfactory completion of repair works. Minor works like repairs to fences and perimeter walls are ongoing but will not affect the reopening of school. Additionally, URP and CEPEP personnel have been mobilised through the various ministries, to assist in the cleaning and sanitization of school compounds. The Ministry of Education wishes to sincerely thank all contractors, their workers and all other personnel working throughout these eight weeks, for their dedicated efforts and long man-hours to facilitate the smooth reopening of school. The MoE is also pleased to advise that a number of newly constructed ECCE centres and primary schools are due to be officially opened within the next fortnight.
