MIRACLES THAT CONFOUNDED ME (3) Growing up in my sleepy countryside It was all about fishing and farming There were several home games Wrestling and swimming competitions Sometimes it was communal soccer We did all the things for young people. Papa was not a man with financial means Papa was not a man with property Papa was a mere fisherman and carpenter Papa was also the village undertaker Papa was an honest and simple man Papa had no money to send me to school. I was able to complete my elementary school My primary school mates went to high school Some of these mates did some apprenticeship Some went ahead to learn typing and shorthand There was nothing of the above I could take Money was never available even for food. People had prophesied about gloom for me People were so sure I would go no where People were boasting I would go no further People, yes, many of our very relations. How the energy came to me to work hard How the ability came for me to teach myself How I started solving complex equations How I started dealing with Physics and Math It was all a miracle I find difficult to explain. I had enrolled and passed the GCE London I had enrolled and passed other examinations From the ordinary to the advanced levels Success came from miraculous sources Opportunities for higher education came At the last count I have become what I am Engineer, educator, poet, manager Miracles do happen, I hereby testify! © Engr.
