MISS EXPO 67 HOSTESS September 30 it was the special day of the Organization for Economic Development and Cooperation (OECD). The crowd was small in Place des Nations. In the centre, the flags of the 21 member-countries and 3 associated countries was displayed. At the foot of each of them, stood a hostess of the country. For countries not present at the exhibition, Expo hostesses, dressed in light blue, stood in their place. Montreal radio stations organized a shuttle service manned by volunteer drivers for the week-end. Departure points were established in the east and west ends of the city. Attendance jumped to over a quarter of a million. The Expo Express stops are jammed to overflowing and thousands are forced to walk across Concordia Bridge to the islands. The men operating the Expo Express were subjected at times to unfair abuse from tired visitors. There was fun all around at the Mexican Pavilion. A competition organized by Mexico and Tunisia for the crowning of Miss Expo 67 Hostess ended. The prices awarded were a 15 days trip to Mexico and many craft products. Hostesses from the different pavilions gathered and paraded before a panel of judges. The winner was Johanna Woodman (photos), of Great Britain, a very sassy twenty years-old brunette with Twiggys style haircut. To the eyes of the jury she no doubt personified a certain Soho youth who had introduced the miniskirt in modern lifestyles. Runners-up were hostesses Margriet Meursing of the Netherlands and Sarah Shamir of Israel. Another contest was organized by ten pavilions and open to young francophone from 8 to 25. More than 20 000 questionnaires were handed over and 708 competitors were chosen after a first selection. The winners would be announced on October 10. The Natural Gas Hospitality Pavilion hosted a fashion show entitled Our Canadian Heritage as well as an exhibition of old toys, collected since 1760 by the Coles family. Expo welcomed a distinguished visitor, Mr Horace King, Chairman of the British House of Commons.
