MISS TEEN SOWETO 2014 Produced for the first time in 2009, Miss Teen Soweto has grown to become the premier teen event in Soweto. Sponsored by Shield Teens in its initial year, Miss Khatutshelo Mphapela of Chiawelo was crowned the first ever Soweto teen beauty at the famous Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown. It was from this premise that the pageant gained momentum as it attracted not only the cream of the crop hailing from Soweto but also corporates that saw value in the pageant. It was the University of JHB Soweto Campus that gave reign to the 2010 queen. Once again Shield Teens, Soweto TV as media partner, the University of Johannesburg as the venue sponsors and the Business Women’s Association as the development partners of the event, brought the level of the competition to another high. 2011 took the project close to achieving one of its goals. The Soweto Festival Expo hosted the event and White Star Super Maize Meal came on board as the broadcast sponsors. The event was broadcasted on Soweto TV achieving a viewership of close to 120 000 audiences in the 1 hour slot. The year 2013 took the pageant to an all-time high. Soweto TV who has been a media sponsor from the pageants inception, launched the reality TV element of the project with 13 episodes of riveting television. Viewers got to take a journey alongside the contestants from the auditions right through to the crowning moment The 2014 event will be taking place at Soweto Theatre on the 04th December
