**MISSION REACH CLOSURE NOTICE** The jet fuel spill along the Mission Reach was contained early this morning. It is estimated that less than 42 gallons left the plant. Most of the spill was contained in the creek between the Calumet Refinery and the river; however, approximately 50 yards of the river was minimally impacted.The cleanup taking place today and tomorrow involves vacuuming and soaking up the fuel from the creek and river. Additional remediation work will likely be necessary in the unnamed creek. Mission Parkway and the paddling trail south of Espada Park will remain closed this weekend. The hike/bike trail remains open. SARA staff will continue to monitor Calumets cleanup efforts to ensure proper remediation of the spill.
