MISSION SUNDAY A – October 19, 2014 ENTRANCE ANTIPHON (Cf. Ps 67 (66):2-3) O God, be gracious and bless us, and let your face shed its light upon us, and have mercy. So will your ways be known upon earth and all nations learn your salvation. INTRO Good morning my dear brothers and sisters. Today is the Mission Sunday; Jesus speaks about the right relationship between humanity and God. Just as the image of Caesar stamped on a Roman coin indicates that the coin belongs to Caesar, so the image of God stamped on every person means that everyone (Caesar included) belongs to God. A pagan king like Cyrus can unwittingly be the Lord’s anointed. We also in a special way celebrate World Mission Sunday with centers on its theme: I Will Build My Church” (Mt.16:18) highlighting the outreach of local churches through priests, religious and laity among the poor and marginalized half a world away. Let us offer our Eucharistic Celebration for our Church, both Chinese and English who will “Go on the road all over Fanling area, to ‘Reach out, Invite and Make friends and followers of Jesus. May the God Who is with us and sent us, bless us and touch every person we meet, talk and encounter today and onwards. The Gloria in excelsis (Glory to God in the highest) is said. COLLECT Let us pray (pause) O God, whose will it is that all should be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth, look upon your abundant harvest and be pleased to send workers to gather it, that the Gospel may be preached to all creation and that your people, gathered by the word of life and sustained by the power of the Sacraments, may advance in the path of salvation and love. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. R. Amen. Let us pray (pause) O God, who sent your Son into the world as the true light, pour out, we pray, the Spirit he promised to sow seeds of truth constantly in people’s hearts and to awaken in them obedience to the faith, so that, being born to new life through Baptism, all may become part of your one people. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. R. Amen. THE LITURGY OF THE WORD FIRST READING (All nations shall stream toward the mountain of the Lord.) A reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah (2:1-5) This is what Isaiah, son of Amoz, saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. In days to come, the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established as the highest mountain and raised above the hills. All nations shall stream toward it; many peoples shall come and say: “Come, let us climb the Lord’s mountain, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may instruct us in his ways, and we may walk in his paths.” For from Zion shall go forth instruction, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. He shall judge between the nations, and impose terms on many peoples. They shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks; one nation shall not raise the sword against another, nor shall they train for war again. O house of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the Lord!—The Word of the Lord. R. Thanks be to God. RESPONSORIAL PSALM (98:1, 2-3, 3-4, 5-6) R. All the ends of the earth have seen the saving power of God. (Ps 98:3c) Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done wondrous deeds; his right hand has won victory for him, his holy arm. (R) The Lord has made his salvation known: in the sight of the nations he has revealed his justice. He has remembered his kindness and his faithfulness toward the house of Israel. (R) All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation by our God. Sing joyfully to the Lord, all you lands; break into song; sing praise. (R) Sing praise to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and melodious song. With trumpets and the sound of the horn sing joyfully before the King, the Lord. (R) SECOND READING (How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!) A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans (10:9-18) Brothers and sisters: If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved. The Scripture says, No one who believes in him will be put to shame. There is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all, enriching all who call upon him. For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. But how can they call on the Lord in whom they have not believed? And how can they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone to preach? And how can people preach unless they are sent? As it is written, How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news! But not everyone has heeded the good news, for Isaiah says, Lord, who has believed what was heard from us? Thus faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ. But I ask, did they not hear? Certainly they did; for Their voice has gone forth to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world.— The Word of the Lord. R. Thanks be to God. GOSPEL ACCLAMATION (Mt 28:19) R. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia (2x). Go and make disciples of all nations. (R) GOSPEL (Go, and make disciples of all nations.) A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew (28:16-20) The eleven disciples of Jesus went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them. When they saw him, they worshiped, but some doubted. Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”— The Gospel of the Lord. R. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia (2x). The Creed is said. PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL All : Lord, make us Your faithful disciples. 1. For our Holy Father and Church leaders: may they seek new ways of proclaiming the Gospel and continue to speak out fearlessly for justice and peace, freedom and responsibility. We pray; 2. For our civil leaders and politicians: may they recognize their dependence on God as the source of all authority and dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to the well-being of our people, conscious of the great dignity Christ has won for all God’s children. We pray; 3. For all the faithful: may they take up their duty to assist the missionary work of the Church, especially the Pontifical Mission Societies, by their prayers, sacrifices and financial aid. We pray; 4. For all Christian families; may they become effective agents of evangelization by being active in parish life, by being involved in service to others, and by being witnesses to the Gospel. We pray; 5. For our local and Universal Church, may the Holy Spirit stir in everyone’s heart and be filled with God’s people of One Heart and Mind with God and be a bright light shining, especially this time darkened world, of warring nations and all kinds of evil and sins around. We pray; 6. For our personal intentions………………. We pray; PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGS Look, O Lord, upon the face of your Christ, who handed himself over as a ransom for all, so that through him, from the rising of the sun to its setting, your name may be exalted among the nations and in every place a single offering may be presented to your majesty. Through Christ our Lord. R. Amen. PREFACE OF THE SUNDAYS IN ORDINARY TIME COMMUNION ANTIPHON (Cf. Mt 28:20) Teach all nations to keep whatever I have commanded you, says the Lord.
