MISSION TO MOSCOW, PART 5-A: JOIN ME FOR A TOUR OF A REMARKABLE CEMETERY Here are two views of the Novodevichiy Convent (the six-tiered bell tower on left is quite famous). It’s an easy walk from the stadium where I attended the World Championships of Track & Field. “Excess” females from the Czarist lineage were involuntarily shut up in here. The cemetery here (free admission) holds some 27,000 graves. One must consult a map to track down grave sites of special personal interest. As Americans, you were likely told in school that “Socialism stifles individual creativity.” Really? Please observe the artistic values in these grave markers (to be sure, they weren’t all created during the Soviet Era). Some I photographed because they grabbed me; I did not obtain the specifics of the persons there interred. These I label either “general view” or “unknown,” etc. Please stick with me thru many segments of this post. If you are at all interested in the Arts, you will be rewarded.
