MISSISSIPPI STATE’S “PSYCHO DEFENSE” JULY 2, 2014 662DAWG LEAVE A COMMENT We love writing about Dak Prescott. ESPN loves writing about Dak Prescott. Everyone loves writing about Dak Prescott, and rightly so. But doesn’t the old saying go a little like this? “Defense wins championships” If that’s the case, then I would say we have as good a chance as anyone in the SEC to do exactly that. Remember this phrase, “Psycho Defense”. You will be hearing it a lot as the season rolls along. If it lives up to it’s potential, this 2014 Mississippi State defense could become the best in Bulldog history, even when compared to the great ones Jackie Sherrill and Joe Lee Dunn coached. The depth is amazing and it is to an extent we have never before witnessed as Bulldog fans. We return almost every key defensive player and almost the entire two deep. First, there are the potential All-Americans in Chris Jones, Preston Smith, Bernardrick McKinney, Matthew Wells, Taveze Calhoun, Will Redmond and Justin Cox. image Then there are the experienced and talented upper classmen in PJ Jones, Kaleb Eulls, Jamerson Love, Jay Hughes, Kendrick Market and Zack Jackson. Also, there are the young, very talented guys who gained a lot of experience last year in Ben Brown, Richie Brown, Ryan Brown, AJ Jefferson, Nelson Adams, Kivon Coman, Cedric Jiles and Tolando Cleveland. Next are the extremely talented guys that redshirted such as Nick James, Torrey Dale, Trent Simpson, Dez Harris, Jahmere Irvin-Sills and Brandon Wells. Finally, there are the very promising newcomers that can vie for immediate playing time in Corey Thomas, Will Coleman, Gerri Green, JT Gray and Brandon Bryant. All in all, it is a defense that can wreak havoc in many ways. It is a defense that’s deeper and more talented than any defense in Bulldog history. image Can the talent live up to the potential and the expectations? I think so. It will be led by one of the best defensive minds in the country in Geoff Collins, a former NFL great in Deshea Townsend, a great veteran coach in Tony Hughes, and a very good defensive line coach in David Turner. image A Prescott-led offense may win us a lot of games and may be very exciting in 2014, but if we are playing for Championships, it will be because of OUR Psycho Defense.
