MIXERS BRACE FOR KINGS BOUNCE-BACK 3:21 pm | Thursday, January 30th, 2014 COACH Tim Cone knows his San Mig Super Coffee team escaped by the skin of its teeth in the opener of its PLDT myDSL PBA Philippine Cup semifinal showdown with Barangay Ginebra. Cone also contends the Kings are about to pull out all stops Friday in a bid to fully put that numbing loss behind them and turn the series into a best-of-five. “We expect Ginebra to jump up to another gear and it’s on us to be prepared,” said Cone on the eve of the series’ Game 2 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. According to Ginebra coach Ato Agustin, Cone is right. “Kailangan maka-one-all,” was how Agustin described the collective mind-set among his charges. “Everybody agreed na kaya namang manalo,” added Agustin. “Iyung first game, sa amin na lang talaga kung bakit natalo.” Agustin was referring to the 83-85 setback they absorbed in the series opener, due mainly to a botched inbound play that resulted in a game-winning jumper by Mark Barroca. “Nagagawa naman sa practice pero hindi nagawa sa laro,” rued Agustin. That doesn’t mean Ginebra has not learned from such a mistake. “Konting adjustments, kailangan lang talagang mag-focus ng husto. Tulad last time breaks of the game lang. Little things lang, one possession, one play, pero makaka-affect kung ano ang outcome,” said Agustin. “We have to play smart, be aggressive. Hindi kami ganu’n last time,” added Agustin. “Kailangan iyung intensity, mas pa kaysa sa first game.” Cone expects nothing less from Ginebra. “Game 1 could have gone either way and I don’t see that changing throughout the series,” said Cone. “Every game is going to be a test of will. This is just going to get more exciting.” (NC) - LA
