MLK and MalcolmX met only once in their short lives - for less - TopicsExpress

MLK and MalcolmX met only once in their short lives - for less than one minute - in our city - after watching the Senate debate civil rights. That meeting occurred 50 years ago tomorrow. That fact reminded me of the epilogue in Do The Right Thing (one of the best films of my lifetime). This is the only clip I could find on Google... You can watch it on mute, but you will miss the music that Spike Lee selected for it. While you watch it, please think about these two leaders and their two approaches. And about how many dozens of other meetings they would have had and how much America - and the world - would have benefitted by listening to them over the years. We can only imagine and wonder how they could/would have influenced each other and the world... A DC student at Howard wrote this piece and Ive excerpted it: thehilltoponline/news/the-meeting-of-malcolm-and-martin-nearly-50-years-later-1.2858275#.UzInPK1dUt0 However, during the time of this senate debate, both were beginning to change their ideologies and understand one another. This was the last, and only, time that the two would meet as Malcolm X was assassinated within the next year and King assassinated three years after. Many wonder what would’ve come of this meeting if both had lived; others see it as a blessing that the two were able to meet in their lifetime. “Well, Malcolm, good to see you,” King said after taking Malcolm X’s hand. “Good to see you,” Malcolm X responded as photographers snapped the famous black-and-white photos of their only meeting... Here is a short video clip of that single handshake in realtime and slowmotion: https://youtube/watch?v=rYvH9LOFfAw If youd like, please share this.
