MMD president Nevers Mumba has commended Minister of Justice Edgar Lungu for opening up dialogue over the constitution-making process. Dr Mumba said Mr Lungu has shown willingness to expedite the constitution-making process by promoting dialogue. He said this when he featured on the Sunday Interview on Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) television. “I must commend Mr Lungu for being open to dialogue so that issues surrounding the constitution can be discussed,” Dr Mumba said. He, however, said the constitution-making process should not be trivialised. He urged Government to keep its campaign promise of delivering a people-driven constitution. And Dr Mumba said MMD is stronger now, more stable than ever and no force from within or outside can divide it. “We have fought a resilient fight and we are preparing to take over Government in 2016,” he said. Dr Mumba said he is confident that MMD will be better than before because there are collective efforts by members to defend the party. He urged members to be united so that the party can perform better. Dr Mumba said the MMD is not discouraged by the many parliamentary seats it has lost through by-elections “Every losing political party goes through a phase and we are fixing that,” Dr Mumba said. He said members who are fighting him must leave the party because he does not want confusion in the party. Dr Mumba also said the MMD is still financially sound contrary to speculation from some sections of the media suggesting that the party is broke. He said the MMD would have not been participating in by-elections if it had no money. Dr Mumba also said the MMD is preparing for a national convention in 2016 and he will announce whether or not he will contest the presidency. “The party is being fixed from the branches up to national level as we prepare ourselves for the convention in 2016,” Dr Mumba said.
