MNREGA is a classic case of government interventions breaking - TopicsExpress

MNREGA is a classic case of government interventions breaking social fabric. MNREGA guarantees 100 days of employment to a family. Now how do we define a family ? It is defined by government documents like Ration card and BPL. So if the names of a couple and their 4 sons are on one job card, they constitute a family and they will get 100 days of employment between them. Now what happens when the 4 sons get married ? Even if the community has a culture of the family living together, they will have to break up as nuclear families if they want to take advantage of the government scheme otherwise, 10 people will have to share the possible 100 days or work. 100 days of work will get a family 16300 per year (assuming they get 100 days of work and get paid properly). The difference is between 16300 (100 days for the joint family) and 81500 (100 days for each of the nuclear families). What will people do in this case ?
