MOCHI It is with heavy, heavy hearts that we share the loss of one of our very recent rescues, Sunny. Sunny came to DRNM in late March and was favoring her front paw, which was examined with no conclusive results. As time went by, she did not improve and was seen by two more vets, who also concentrated on her paw and on Ehrlichia, for which she had tested positive. Sunny was adopted on May 2 by an angel committed to rehabbing her, believing that her only ailments were Ehrlichia and muscle atrophy in her leg. Renamed Mochi, she was showered with love by her new mom, but did not improve. On a road trip with her mom and fur-siblings, Mochi became immobile and suffered a seizure, so her mom rushed her to a fourth vet, Dr. Jantzen in Las Vegas NM, who worked tirelessly to determine what was wrong with her. It was discovered that Mochi had advanced pneumonia and septicemia, for which Dr. Jantzen began intensive treatment. Mochi seemed to rally, but on Saturday took a complete turn for the worse and her lungs filled with fluid. She was suffocating. To the end, her mom was by her side, as Mochi would use all of her energy to look for her if Mom moved away from her side. Her mom is devastated by the loss of this precious treasure after only three weeks. Our hearts are broken at the loss of this gentle soul that her mom describes as beautiful and perfect.
