MOM by Sonny Billy Tackett April 2000 Mom never liked to get out and go very much She enjoyed staying home, taking care of us kids, the house and such We never had a lot of money or material things to speak of But of one thing there was no shortage, and that was our Mothers love Everything was going pretty well until the year nineteen fifty eight Thats when the brickyard where Dad worked had finished their last shift and closed the gate For the next few years it seems the family would sometimes come up short But no matter what happened Mom was always right there lending her support Moms only daughter was born in nineteen sixty, one late August day But she lived only three days until the Lord saw fit to take little Delia Ann away This left Mom and Dad with us three boys, myself, James, and Eddie But whatever life had in store for us, it seemed that Mom was always ready Then one day the soldiers came with the news that Eddie had been killed in Vietnam This was rough for the whole family, but especially hard on Mom Billy and Brandon are Moms two grandsons and of them shes very proud She always brags about them, whether shes with one or two people or in a great crowd Dad passed away suddenly in the fall of nineteen eighty one So James and I took care of Mom and tried to do our duty as her sons The next few years Mom seemed to get along pretty good We would help around the house and do whatever we could But then she got weaker and her health began to fail It seemed that she got so thin, weak, and frail She woke me up early one March day And said, With me, will you pray That morning she accepted Christ as her Saviour there in her living room So now no matter what happens theres no reason for gloom We just want you to know, Mom, whatever for you the Lord has in store We all love you so very much that it would be impossible to love you more
