MOM of the 270th chapter meeting of Toastmasters Club of Pune held on 28th June 2014 The theme of the day was “Celebrating Endings and Beginnings” The meeting at BMC Software was attended by 35 members and 7 guests. Even though there was some initial confusion about the meeting room, Sergeant at Arms TM Chetan Patankar managed to begin the proceedings sharply at 5 pm by explaining all the rules and regulations of our club and urging any defaulter to pay in cash only as club did not accept cards. This was soon followed by a round of introduction of the guests present at the meeting. SAA also gave an apt introduction of the Toastmaster of the day, introducing her as a seasoned Toastmaster. The Vice-president Education and the Toastmaster of the day Manisha Singh started by prompting the audience to take the word “End” in positive sense since an end always opens the gate for new beginnings. She requested the audience to end the comfort zone that we live in and mark the beginning of a challenging life. Soon after, President-elect Azharuddin Khadri, who is a bachelor, felicitated the president Nagappan PL with the Golden Gravel Award for being a terrific mentor, proactive leader and thanked him for all his efforts in taking the club where it is today. Nagappan, as modest as ever, dedicated the award to the whole club for working as a team and thanked Prasad Sovani, Beena Mandrekar Umesh Agashe for all their guidance and then did the honors of cutting the delicious cake prepare by Azharuddin. TMoD then enthusiastically welcomed all the role players one by one. Grammarian TM Gauri Vedpathak introduced the word of the day “Serendipity” and the phrase of the day “Paddle your own Canoe” and encourages everyone to use them as frequently as possible. The first session of prepared speeches kicked off with an ice breaker by TM Pramod V Bhave who explained the meaning of Retrospective by citing specific examples of his academic and professional life. He emphasized on his life in Mumbai and Singapore and the differences in culture in both the cities. The second speaker TM Shashank Tiwari attempted his project 4 and took us on a trip to trinity. He shared his experience of his lovely and romantic vacation with his wife (he fumbled while taking her name) to Scotland, York and London. He thanked Yash Chopra for already giving him a tour of London and then talked about the beauty of York. The third speaker TM Chitresh Jain started the speech in a dramatic manner as he threw himself down on the floor. SAA and some other members actually thought that he had suffered a massive heart attack. He then got up on his feet and asked people what restricts them in life and why we are not doing what we want to do. He highlighted the lack of aspirations and willingness to achieve our goals as the reason for our failures. He ended up urging to love whatever it is that we do. The fourth speaker TM Sudarshan Mahajan started with soccer and talked about what makes “Messi” great. He told that messi only sees the goal and does not understand the rules of the beautiful game. He talked that we often give excuses for our failures and why we cannot achieve certain goal in life. He cited examples from his college life to inspire his audience. The speech session was shortly followed by an educational session by president Nagappan PL who explained the educational system of Toastmasters International and the titles that are available in Toastmasters. He listed out various titles such as CC, ACB, ACS and ACG available in Communication path of Toastmasters and the minimum criteria to achieve these tiles. He then went on explaining similar titles in the leadership track as well and how one can achieve the highest title of DTM. After the voting for best speakers, the two speakers TM Chitresh and TM Sudarshan were given standing ovation for having completed their respective competent communicator titles. In the evaluation session, all the evaluators TM Paras Kher, TM Mohit Garg, CC Vinand Arabale and ACG, ALS Beena Mandrekar gave suitable feedback to their respective speakers explaining them their positive and negative points of the speech. The table topics Master TM Sarthak Kumar had prepared interesting topics related to the theme of the Day and gave equal opportunities to Toastmasters and guests to speak off the cuff .Grammarian TM Gauri listed out people who used the WOD and the POD appropriately and gave her report on the bad and good usage of Grammar. TM Vineeth Reddy was sincere in his role of the timer and was appreciated for being prompt with the timing. TM Sujata Dutta gave a very detailed report of the fillers and the Ah’s and ums that the speakers used during the meeting. CC Koustubh Sinkar as the general evaluator presented his report on the proceedings of the meeting and gave his feedback to the speakers and all role players in his a humorous manner. He also thanked TM Ranjit Misal Nikam for making way for him as the general evaluator and helping him achieve the title CL. He praised Manisha singh for her wonderful job as the toastmaster of the day and her efforts in making the meeting a huge success. President Nagappan in his concluding remarks requested the feedback of the guests present and wished the new executive committee all the luck in continuing the good work of growing the club as a whole. He also handed out the best speaker, best evaluator and best table topic ribbons. CC Sudarshan Mahajan received the best speaker honor; ALS, ACG Beena Mandrekar received the best evaluator honor and TM Hemang Mandrekar received the best Table Topic ribbon.
