MONDAY 07/10/13 THE MILLIONAIRE PHOTOGRAPHER (Part 3). PHOTO FRAMING, EXHIBITION, PHOTO MAGAZINES AND PHOTO JOURNALISM. There is always a first day in a man’s life. Your first day is when you get up and start walking. My friends, there is no stagnation without a reason. You are not down because things are down. You are down because you do not have the light you need to be up. I know you have for yourself a highly enviable future; the devil will not just let you get loose. You need to live a more practical life. Do not just be full of ideas. Practice what you know, practice what you preach. When the lord has given you the wisdom, when he has opened your eyes to light, when he has briefed you through a medium on something that could affect your life positively, please waste no time to practice it. Success is not luck, success is not connection, and success is not fortune. When your light comes, grab it and shine. God wants to make you a blessing for all the people of the earth to see it but you don’t realize this and you wallow away in the dark saying the time is not ripe. My friends, when actually will that time be ripe for you to shine? Some questions have been coming in as regard this topic we are dealing at the moment. Like we have said, photography is a very wide profession which we just cannot cover up in one day. We try as much as is possible to summarize things but it is how best we can go. This field of profession is very wide and we just must touch every aspect even though we may not be very deep into analyzing all the details on this platform. We have also advised that whatever aspect one intends to master, the friend, client and readers contact us or any other consultant who is richly experienced in the field to help out. Once your mind is made up, get yourself a good teacher, a good consultant, it is not always about money, it is knowledge now. That man is richer than you because he knows better than you. HE KNOWS WHAT YOU DO NOT KNOW. You know something only when you make consultations, you know something only when you ask. A state of no lack is what we call prosperity, it is NOT a state of cash, it is a state of light! Life is a simple place to live in. Never praise yourself when you think you are bright and is good as when you do the lord shall ensure you are disgraced and humbled. TODAY’S TOPIC: Just as today’s topic is simple, it involves a lot of care and your style of approach and exposure determines how successful you will be in the trade. Whatever work you do, people are interested in the finishing and the end results. It is how well you have packaged your finished products and have presented it to the consumer that attract and spells out how good your product is in the inside. I am a food industrialist, I am fully knowledgeable in the food business and I know what packaging is and the overall effect it has on your reputation and your market. Then we used to prepare our meals and just serve. Today we make the meals more colourful and more attractive by a different measure and methods of self developed garnishing. This extra effort we have made to give the food more colour and drive the interest of our target market or the consumer closer to us that instant. When you have the best of product, people will not appreciate it or know what you have to offer until you have put some extra efforts of finishing. We say a house is completed and is called a home when we have done the interior completely, that is finishing, and it is what is called packaging, the end product. A picture that is well taken, with all of the best of the cameras, lighting, and background effect and colour improvement and is cheaply presented in just a simple white or brown envelope isn’t good enough. Remember, we on this platform are people of value. We know what value is and as such will not compromise it for anything. What ever product comes of you is a thing of value; never cheapen yourself by presenting anything cheaper. There are various types of photo frames. If you intend to go more deeply into this trade, you just must give the finishing aspect of your photos a better attention and concern. You will attend different photo exhibition to gather various systems and ideas from existing masters in the trade. You now work on your own standard taken that step to want to at all cost surpass all that you have seen. You should be that photographer that wants to go beyond the shores and corners of your country. You want to be well known in the trade. You want to win competitions, you want to be awarded and fully recognized in this trade. You just must be creative in your end product and presentation. From the simple ceremonial album we keep, you can start from there. What we all know and is aware of is photographers just get pictures delivered to us in envelopes, either the white or the brown envelope of they just advance by simple photo albums that we have all over the place. Hmmm, how ignorant some of us can be in areas and matters that concern presentation and packaging. How well have you thought of making your own picture albums in such ways as it appears like a book? Have your pictures presented like those stories of the bible and in such manners it comes out like a textbook. Have you ever thought of a more creative album specially designed for your office? That special design that when seen, it spells you. They know it is you, yes, and your handwork. Have you thought of the African thing where your album is presented in covers like, woven baskets with some forms of artificial flowers, bird nets, adire, Ankara, and some other African designs where these covers when dully laminated will last the beauty of the photo album a lifetime. Those people who win international awards do not present their goods in the very common and usual finishing designs. The most unique, most traditional and most innovative ideas are those that win awards. There are too numerous to mention picture frames and albums. A few of the picture frames cold be Victorian picture frames, Digital picture frames, Antique picture frames, Free borders picture frames, Kodak smart picture frames, Novelty picture frames, Bulk picture frames, Homemade picture frames, Cardboard picture frames, wood picture frames amongst others. As you move around and walk into some standard studios we have around, you are exposed to the various styles of framing and photo presentation and finishing. A millionaire photographer is a professional who have standards for him to maintain. He is a man of value and will not want to present any product that will dent his image. A millionaire photographer will attend forums, holiday spots, trade fairs and other opportunities to promote his trade. He will display his products for the purpose of sale and for people to see and appreciate. Today we have various sites on the internet where your end products is advised for you to scan and submit your picture samples and when you do it is compared with other products presentation from all over the world and you will not be surprised that you may be invited from the U.S.A., the U.K and other modern and civilized countries of the world to appreciate you and your work. That is photo exhibition. When you think that far, you get more interested, more committed and more determined. THE PHOTO JOURNALISM: The photo effects, the photo animations, the photo filters and the face effects, the combination of colours and all of those is what makes you. When you have all these factors in check, you can do photo reporting very successfully. The popular Dele Momodu I am sure a lot of us know and his most popular magazine now, THE OVATION. He made sure he left no stones unturned. The picture qualities and the method and manners of approach, the presentation of these magazines made the popular ovation. He has used this business to make him a millionaire today. Now we have some other photo magazines that have adopted this same style and system and are doing very good in the trade. It used to be pictures supporting happenings in the newspapers, people got tired of these as our economic and political situation have dropped peoples interest in the dailies. They needed something that is more interesting, something that is more of a relaxation material, then the events magazines were introduced and today we have more than enough of these magazines with more and more people making their millions out of the trade. You have magazines on the fashion thing, the general foods industry, the entertainment industry, the hosing and estates, places and hotels. HOW DO I GO ABOUT THIS? Anyone who allows people to control his plans for himself will naturally have the challenge of making it in life. You want to do something; you have your reasons for wanting to do this. Let no one try to convince you otherwise. Today, a higher percentage of us do other peoples jobs to make a living. What we studied in school is different from what we practice. Dele Momodu studied Yoruba language in school. Now he is well known photo journalist who knows the best market for himself and did not waste time to savor his market. He recognized it fast and did not waste time to take a good advantage of it. Another sited example is our dear Bisi olatilo. For some of us who have been following him and his journals, we know how he started and today, he does not only do event reporting on video ceremonial reporting, he runs a standard printing press in the trade and today he prints his journals and have in them quality pictures for us to appreciate and in exchange for our money. You can be like these people. You can be better off too. You just must start from somewhere. Your true assistance come from the people you relate with, those who appreciate you and know your value give the financial support to go higher in the trade. You do not have to waste time. Today we have celebrity magazines all over the place, we have magazines on homes and interior decoration, and we have magazines on Foods and our general daily needs, you know vehicles and the rest of them. You can do this too. (1) Get your company name registered, not just as a photographer but as a general photo specialist, printer, advert executive and a general photo consultant. (2) Get your ISBN number and publisher’s right from necessary authorities, for easy guide, talk to your printer at the printing press company you intend to use for your intending product. (3) Be well guided on the overall cost of production. (4) Get the best of cameras and know exactly what you want to focus. Is it politics, Hotels, foods, Places, nature, animals? Know your target market and all that is involved. (5) The best of it, get yourself a friend consultant who will not only be out to reap you off your money but will be a partner in the challenge until you are stable and independent to do things alone. You will continue to get more details, more enlightened and more educated as you go deeper into the trade. It is not just about us dictating all facts here.
