MONDAY AM ICU UPDATE: Rhonda went ALL DAY and ALL NIGHT without - TopicsExpress

MONDAY AM ICU UPDATE: Rhonda went ALL DAY and ALL NIGHT without the ventilator. Hallelujah! She continues to wear the trach collar with oxygen but is making great strides in the right direction. She is not to the point where the trach collar can be removed. The CO2 level in her body rose slightly during the night, but seemed to be resolved this morning. There is a possibility she may have a procedure done tomorrow to insert an endobronchial valve into her airway to help hasten the healing of the air leak in the right lung sustained during the surgery on August 6. As of this morning the leak did not seem to be as pronounced, so they will monitor the leak today and make a decision by tomorrow about proceeding with the endobronchial valve. The valve opens when the patient exhales but closes when the patient inhales, hence preventing air to pass into the part of the lung where the leak is located, thereby helping to seal it off. Although she went to interventional radiology on Friday for the insertion of a larger j-tube the site around the tube continues to leak really badly. It needs to be repaired which would require another surgery, but her surgeons are reluctant to take her back into the OR this soon as she is just now beginning to recover from all of the setbacks post surgery on August 6. Pray specifically for the air leak in the right lung to seal and for the leak around the j-tube to seal. Pray for wisdom for the doctors and surgeons to know precisely how best to address these issues. There are no plans to move her to another facility today or perhaps even tomorrow until the air leak in the right lung and the leak around the j-tube are properly addressed. Thank you for your continued prayers for Rhonda. I can tell you she is feisty, spunky, and very much alive and well on her way to full recovery. I believe this, therefore, I speak it in the strong name of Jesus Christ. May His peace surround you on this Labor Day!
