MONDAY, January 20 Hebrews 4:16. Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. On the television show Undercover Boss, CEOs and other executives disguise themselves and go to work in their own companies among employees, getting to know them and the work they do. They experience life on the inside, from their employees’ perspective. By the show’s end, we see tearful executives expressing appreciation for their employees and rewarding their good work, performing benevolent acts of kindness, and empathizing with the workers’ struggles. Because Jesus chose to come and live among us, he got to see what it was like to live on the inside, what it’s like to be human. He got to experience great joy and deep sorrow and feel pain, weakness, and other human emotions. He got to feel what it’s like to be tempted. As he went about life on earth, Jesus got to do and feel and be everything that it means to be human. So, he really knows what it’s like to be one of us. We have a certain confidence in seeking advice or assistance from people whose experiences are like ours. Because Jesus walked on earth, we can have that same confidence in approaching him for our every need.
