MONDAY MOTIVATION: My younger brother and I never liked to shower as little boys. He devised a trick, washing our faces, hands and legs and splashing the rest of the water on the wall. We called it KIPLANOS, derived from plan, and would simply agree Lets do KIPLANOS today. We got away with it as long as my mother was away, she knew better not to be fooled. Shed simply look at our haggard bottoms and oil (nyorosha) them with a rod. Indeed Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; The rod of discipline will remove it far from him. (Prov. 22:15). Sugar was hard to come by, yet how I loved to lick it. One day, from the shop, I made a small hole at the bottom of the half kilo pack and ended up licking half of it but did not clean my mouth. With one look at me, Mummy went to the cupboard where Id placed it and was shocked to find her labour drenched in saliva. You have heard it said, spare the rod, spoil the child. With the ensuing punishment, life would have been better in a concentration camp. A rod and a reprimand impart wisdom, but a child left undisciplined disgraces its mother. (Prov. 29:15). We never had TV in the slum but could not fail to know Bruce Lee, Van Damme, Jackie Chan, Mithun Chakraborty, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Cythia Rothrock. So one day my brother and I opted to emulate them and started practicing in the evenings in order to protect our family if we were ever attacked. One night, we heard a thief break the kitchen window and made a way with a thermos. We were so powerlessness, and embraced the Dont try this at home warning. Nobody took responsibility for the wet bedding and mat (jamvi) the next morning. Mummy simply told us, Cut your coat according to your cloth. At least she had screamed. Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. (Prov. 2:9). Dont you have your childhood memories? Blessed week.
