MONDAY at Train Depot (SANBAG Hdqtrs) An extremely-important public meeting is happening tomorrow on the second floor of the historic Santa Fe depot on Third Street, and, if you can attend any time between 4:30 and 6:30, San Bernardino needs you to do so in order to help represent the city and to advocate for its interests. SanBAG is the transportation-planning agency for jurisdictions in San Bernardino County, and the Board is deciding how to prioritize use of the next four years worth of revenue that is being collected as part of the Measure I sales tax. The vast majority of these funds are required by law to be spent on automobile-dependent infrastructure, but a relatively-small amount is dedicated to rail and to other mass transit. This portion is the topic of discussion tomorrow, and high-quality transit systems (rail, B.R.T., etc.) are the most important way now for San Bernardino to fix its economy and to attract private investment from: entrepreneurs; employers; retailers; developers; and, existing and prospective residents. You can help ensure that San Bernardino secures much of this funding by telling the Board that its main goals should be using high-quality transit systems for economic development and for reducing sprawl.
