MONTREAL — Police have arrested two men who were holed up in an east end apartment building after an armed robbery early Tuesday. Two masked men held up a Pharmaprix store at the corner of Sherbrooke St. E. and Hogan St. at 10 a.m. The two men went to the pharmacy at the back of the store and threatened the staff with syringes before taking out a gun. A cashier at the front of the store called 911 and alerted police. The men walked out of the store and the pharmacy staff pointed the men out to officers who arrived quickly. The suspects were tracked to an apartment building across the street where they remained for about three hours. Police cordoned off the area in a wide security perimeter and called in the SWAT and canine units. The streets were blocked for nearly three hours because the men were considered armed and dangerous. Tenants from the building were asked to show ID and frisked as they left their homes to make sure they were not the wanted men. The arrests took place shortly after 1 p.m.
