MONTY FINALS WEEK 1 PREVIEWS A very historic day for the Club on - TopicsExpress

MONTY FINALS WEEK 1 PREVIEWS A very historic day for the Club on Sunday with 10 teams in action at 3 different grounds. We want to see huge supporter turn out for the Magpies at all three venues. This Sunday will see Research Park transformed into “Fortress Montmorency” with all 5 games having the Black and White in action. For those many families heading to Fortress Montmorency please allow a lot of extra time as Wattle Tree Rd is closed on Sunday (Bridgeworks) and parking will be very difficult. The two Magpies games at Diamond Creek are the cream of the NFL Finals action and should both be outstanding.. A special shout out to all families and supports of the 2 teams who are at Whittlesea. This venue is a little ‘off Broadway” and it would be great to see as many Mont supporters as we can muster make the trip up Plenty Rd to support the teams. Make sure you wear your Club Gear to let everyone know who you support. Don’t forget we have a Monty Mingle on Sunday night as well and want to see a big turnout of Magpie supporters at the Club Rooms. Good luck to all teams on Sunday GO MONT!! MONTMORENCY UNDER 16 GIRLS 2ND SEMI FINAL MONT (#1) V SOUTH MORANG GOLD (#2) 2.30 AT RESEARCH WIN = GRAND FINAL BERTH LOSS = PRELIMINARY FINAL The Mont Girls are making history on Sunday at Research by becoming our first ever female finals team. This game should be a ripper with both teams finishing on equal points at the end of the H&A season- Mont taking top spot courtesy of a superior percentage. Whilst on form the Magpies have loomed a little more mortal late in the season they have regularly been without some key players. This Sunday Montmorency have a full team for the first time in many weeks.. Last Sunday the Lions prevailed when these two teams met at Para Rd so the Magpies will need to ensure they are at their peak for the whole four quarters. No doubt Coach Craig Atherton will be looking for big contributions from the team leaders as the Girls look to book a spot in the Grand Final MONTMORENCY UNDER 17 2ND SEMI FINAL ELTHAM (#1) v MONTMORENCY (#2) AT DIAMOND CREEK 3PM WIN = GRAND FINAL BERTH LOSS = PRELIMINARY FINAL The biggest game on Sunday anywhere is this clash between the top two teams in Under 17 Blue Division. The Panthers go in as red hot favorites on the back of their unbeaten season to date. They are a very classy outfit with a host of high quality players and are clearly the benchmark of the competition. Their ability to run hard and employ quick ball movement is exceptional. The last clash between these two teams does give the Magpies some cause for hope however when Monty outscored Eltham 4.6 to no score in the final quarter to go down by less than two goals. Naturally if Dom Taglieri’s crew wish to book a spot at the big dance everything will need to go right this Sunday, especially the start of the game. A couple of the Monty prime movers have just been down just a fraction in recent weeks and are well and truly due for big games. This game should be a cracker-no question. If the Magpies can ensure they don’t let Eltham get away early this game has the distinct whiff of an upset. MONTMORENCY UNDER 16 2ND SEMI FINAL MONTMORENCY (#1) V STH MORANG (#2) AT DIAMOND CREEK 1PM WIN = GRAND FINAL BERTH LOSS = PRELIMINARY FINAL This is yet another game which should be a ripper. These two teams clashed on the same ground last season in the Under 15 Blue GF with the Lions getting home by less than a kick in the game of the season. Another superb match looks likely on Sunday. The Magpies have mixed their form a fraction this season and that is reflected in the results against Sth Morang. At home early in the year the Magpies prevailed by 3 goals whilst the return game saw the Lions win by 7 goals. Paul Beadle’s boys got a terrific ‘early finals’ game last week against Diamond Creek when they got home on the back of a strong final quarter in a highly pressured and tight match. If the Magpies can continue to play as a team and produce their best footy they will be extremely hard to beat . The team looks to be back to their best and if the A Game is produced on Sunday then a week’s rest is well and truly on the cards. MONTMORENCY UNDER 15 1st SEMI FINAL WALLAN (#3) v MONTMORENCY (#4 ) AT WHITTLESEA 3PM WIN = PRELIMINARY FINAL LOSS = HAND IN JUMPER Over the season the head to head results were in line with the home ground advantage. These two teams clashed in Round 14 at Wallan and the home team where victorious by 5 goals. There were 135 points scored in the match and 134 of them were scored at one end !!( Yes it was that windy) This week , when it really counts, you can be assured that the Monty team will look like a completely different team (& not just because they are wearing a clash jumper!) Due to a variety of reasons the Para Rd Magpies have not had their best team on the park in recent weeks , a situation which should be remedied on Sunday . Coach Trevor Robinson has really got this team playing for each other (& the Coach) and that could well prove to be the difference in what looks to be a pretty even match up. These boys have proved that their best is good enough and if they can produce it then the team could go deep into the Finals series. MONTMORENCY UNDER 13 2ND SEMI FINAL MONT (#1) V WEST PRESTON (#2) 1pm AT RESEARCH WIN = GRAND FINAL BERTH LOSS = PRELIMINARY FINAL The best two teams in the Division clash on Sunday in what looks to be a very even game. Darren Boulton’s crew have continued with their winning form but it was the Roosters who looked to be the most dangerous opponent during the season. In their only clash for the season the Magpies just snuck home by a goal at Para Rd. This is a very big game as it looks likely these two teams will meet again in the GF and a week’s rest would be very nice. No doubt West Preston Coach – 4 time AFL Premiership player Martin Pike- will have his team ready to go from the first bounce. The Magpies will need to ensure they play 4 quarters and that everyone in the team makes a solid contribution if we want to hear our favourite song after the final siren. MONTMORENCY UNDER 12 2ND SEMI FINAL MERNDA (#1) v MONT WHITE (#2) 11.30pm AT RESEARCH WIN = GRAND FINAL BERTH LOSS = PRELIMINARY FINAL The last game between these two teams saw some wasteful kicking in front of Goal curtail the Magpies chances. Mernda were the dominate team for the season but the later games saw them (on paper) look to fall away a fraction whilst the Magpies are showing their best footy for the year. The Demons only dropped a single game for the season and will be very hard to topple, no question. Coach Lee Butcher will be looking for a strong start and hoping that our good late season form can lift another notch on Sunday. MONTMORENCY UNDER 11 2ND SEMI FINAL STH MORANG (#1) v MONTMORENCY (#2 ) AT WHITTLESEAS 11.30PM WIN = GRAND FINAL BERTH LOSS = PRELIMINARY FINAL It has been a remarkable comeback from Jordie Campbell’s Magpies in 2013. After a very tough start to the season the Mont crew have produced some terrific results, often from a team that was very much ‘Cut & Paste’. It is also timely to thank all the families who supported this team when things were very tight early in the season. In truth it would need everything to go right for the Magpies to get a week’s rest . This Sunday’s opponents are very strong and look to have a mortgage on the flag. But you never know when an upset will occur and ,in Coach Jordie Campbell, these Magpies have just the right man who may be able to guide the team to a remarkable result UNDER 10s BLACKS 1ST SEMI FINAL ELTHAM (#3) v MONTMORENCY (#4) AT DIAMOND CREEK 8.30AM WIN = PRELIMINARY FINAL LOSS = HAND IN JUMPER WHITES -1ST SEMI FINAL MONTMORENCY (#3) V LAURIMAR (#4) AT RESEARCH 8.30AM WIN = PRELIMINARY FINAL LOSS = HAND IN JUMPER MAGPIES -2ND SEMI FINAL MONTMORENCY (#1) V MERNDA (#2) AT RESEARCH 10AM WIN = GRAND FINAL BERTH LOSS = PRELIMINARY FINAL A fantastic performance from all three Under 10s teams in season 2013. Well done to all the Coaches and all the families associated with the teams. We hope this Sunday is a lot of fun for all the families and everyone has a great experience.
