MORE ON THE CHRISTMAS PARTY FOR PUROK BANGKAL Last morning of Dec. 24, Purok Bangkal had a Christmas Party which the local Catholic church group of lay leaders organized. This is a yearly event like their fiesta wherein the residents gather to enjoy fun, games and the exchange of gifts. IRC Sagay took part in this community celebration and had the opportunity to make the happening merrier by giving away gifts and prizes for the games and contests. We got the items for the prizes and give aways from our Australian friends of the Southern Hills Christian College who visited us in Purok Bangkal last month and gave us dozens of caps, jackets and T-shirts. We still had some left after our IRC Thanksgiving Party last Dec. 12 wherein we gave to the fishermen of Purok Bangkal most of the caps and jackets. With the timely arrival from Japan of two balikbayan boxes of clothes and over three hundred brand new T-shirts before the Christmas party, we were able to give more. We were even able to give T- shirts to all the members of the local church choir and the local churchs lay leaders. We also gave away vitamins for the children which the mothers really appreciated. The Christmas Party started early despite the on and off drizzle which made the partys venue a little muddy and slippery. IRC Sagay also sponsored the food and we had the women cook three pots of lugaw early in the morning for the children and the mothers. We were all the more blessed as we blessed the residents of Purok Bangkal on this occasion. The IRC journey of transformational community development has only just began for us here in Purok Bangkal but we have found purpose and meaning to the labor we do here. Personally, I am happy when I make other people happy. Here in Purok Bangkal I am happy and more...only by the grace of God.
