MORE THAN A COINCIDENCE? ... Political entities often reserve Friday -- particularly before a holiday -- to make exceptionally controversial announcements. The White House -- both Republicans and Democrats -- have utilized this tactic almost to predictability. The Jindal Administration has pulled off the same ploy over the years, particularly on announcements of budget cuts or terminations. This strategy allows time for the announcement to lapse into the back of the minds of general populous. Maybe a big football game, reality show or weather event will divert attention away from Fridays startling announcement. Consider this: Around noon Friday Dec. 19, news went public regarding the Diocese of Baton Rouges decision to close struggling Redemptorist High School. They knew they were about to deliver a bombshell to the Greater Baton Rouge area. Taking a page from state and federal government, the Diocese made the announcement Friday before a Christmas break, probably not long after they sent the student body home for the holidays. Perhaps the folks at the Diocese hoped a long Christmas break, a New Years celebration and LSUs bowl game (even if its the ho-hum Music City Bowl) would divert attention from Fridays little announcement. Some folks adamantly debunk claims of politicization within the Church. They deem such accusations purely myth. The Dioceses actions Friday proved maybe more fact than fiction lies in that accusation.
