MORNING DEVOTION---Wednesday, December 4, 2013: Matthew 28:18-20 NLT. Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” One of the hobbies Kelley and I share is an enjoyment of going to auctions. Some of the auctions we go to our for used estate items, while most of the auctions we go to are for new items. One thing you can be sure of, over time, your home and especially your garage can become………”CLUTTERED!” I have been accused of being a “pack-rat” at times, but after a while, I will get tired of STUFF and have a garage sale or sell something on Craigslist! The clutter of “THINGS” can sometimes be very annoying! I come by it naturally, for my Parents would “hang-onto-things” just in case “we might need that old door trim, or what if the power goes out, and we need all those lanterns!” But after a while,……………ENOUGH IS ENOUGH and it is time to ………….”UN-CLUTTER” our life! In our text today, Jesus gives His immediate Disciples, and those of us who would be following them, a command: “GO AND MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL NATIONS……TEACH THEM TO OBEY ALL THE COMMANDS I HAVE GIVEN YOU!” This command of the Lord is known as the “Great Commission!” It is a straight forward direct command of our Lord to each and every one of His Followers! However, for far too many of Jesus’ Followers, our life gets a little too “CLUTTERED,” cluttered with the THINGS and CARES of this world. We get so involved in the doings of THIS life, that we lose sight of the fact that we are working and preparing for our HEAVENLY life and that we are a “COMMISSIONED” people! Even though we live here, and have to work here; raise a family here; pay bills here; …………We are STILL members of the Kingdom of Christ and we have been commissioned by our Lord, to reduce the “CLUTTER” of life, and “GO AND MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL THE NATIONS!” Let me put this commission of our Lord another way: “By the power of the Lord, through the anointing of the Holy Spirit, go to the nations of the world and ……………..CHANGE THEM! Make them resemble the Kingdom of Heaven! And oh by the way, don’t become distracted by too much CLUTTER in your life, it is just a trick of the devil to distract you from your assignment!” That’s what our Lord’s saying to us! Unclutter your life and “GO!”---ENJOY HIS PRESENCE TODAY! .....Pastor Steve Gardner
