MORNING FRIENDS LETS THINK ABOUT ....HUMILITY God created the world out of nothing, and so long as we are nothing, He can make something out of us. How great victory was that which Jonathan must have gained over himself, when he rejoiced to see David raised above him! He discerned the mind of God in David, and had so learned to delight in God, that he did not see in David one who was to outshine him, but another faithful man raised up for God and Israel. Humility is the proper estimate of oneself. True humility does not know that it is humble. If it did, it would be proud from the contemplation of so fine a virtue. The greatest wisdom consists in knowing one’s own follies. We are all wounded. But wounds are necessary for his healing light to enter into our beings. Without wounds and failure and frustrations and defeats, there will be no opening for his brilliance to trickle in and invade our lives. Failures in life are courses with very high tuition fees, so I don’t cut classes and miss my lessons: on humility, on patience, on hope, on asking others for help, on listening to God, on trying again and again and again. One cannot be humble and aware of oneself at the same time. See everything, overlook a great deal, correct a little. True humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less. We must be ready to allow ourselves to be interrupted by God… It is a strange fact that Christian sand even ministers frequently consider their work so important and urgent that they will allow nothing to disturb them. They think they are doing God a service in this but actually they are disdaining God’s “crooked but straight path”. It is part of the discipline of humility that we must not spare our hand where it can perform service and that we do not assume that our schedule is our own to manage, but allow it to be arranged by God.
