~ MORNING PRAYER Week of Prayer for Christian Unity • Opening Sentence I will give you as a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth. Isaiah 49:6b • Collect of the Day ~ Second Sunday after the Epiphany Almighty God, whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ is the light of the world: Grant that your people, illumined by your Word and Sacraments, may shine with the radiance of Christ’s glory, that he may be known, worshiped, and obeyed to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and for ever. Amen. • A Collect for Guidance Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our being: We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget you, but may remember that we are ever walking in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. • For Mission O God, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth, and sent your blessed Son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near: Grant that people everywhere may seek after you and find you; bring the nations into your fold; pour out your Spirit upon all flesh; and hasten the coming of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. • For the Unity of the Church Almighty Father, whose blessed Son before his passion prayed for his disciples that they might be one, as you and he are one: Grant that your Church, being bound together in love and obedience to you, may be united in one body by the one Spirit, that the world may believe in him whom you have sent, your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. • Cantus sings Samuel Sebastian Wesleys anthem, Ascribe Unto the Lord. Ascribe unto the Lord, O ye kindreds of the people : ascribe unto the Lord worship and power. Ascribe unto the Lord the honour due unto his Name. Let the whole earth stand in awe of him. Tell it out among the heathen that the Lord is King : and that he shall judge the people righteously. Let the whole earth stand in awe of him. O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. Sing to the Lord, and praise his Name : be telling of his salvation from day to day, and his wonders unto all people. As for the gods of the heathen, they are but idols. Their idols are silver and gold : even the work of mens hands. They have mouths, and speak not : eyes have they, and see not. They have ears, and hear not : noses have they, and smell not. They have hands, and handle not; feet have they, and walk not : neither speak they They that make them are like unto them : and so are all such as put their trust in them. As for our God, he is in heaven : he hath done whatsoever pleased him. The Lord hath been mindful of us, and he shall bless us : he shall bless the house of Israel, he shall bless the house of Aaron. He shall bless them that fear the Lord : both small and great. Ye are the blessed of the Lord : you and your children. Ye are the blessed of the Lord : who made heaven and earth. Psalm 96:7–8a,9b–10a,10c,9a,2,3b,5a; Psalm 115:4–8,3,12,13,15a,14b,15b (Coverdale Bible, slightly altered)
