MORNING SHOW NOTES: THE SHAMROCK AND THE TRINITY. Weve been getting so many requests for the story we shared on St. Patricks Day that I wanted to give it to you in its entirety: The shamrock has an interesting history. What does it have to do with St. Patrick, besides being green? The shamrock is a clover plant...a stem with three small green leaves. St. Patrick was a bigtime missionary to the Irish, and when he arrived in Ireland, in 432 AD these people had heard little or nothing of Jesus and the gospel. Legend has it that St. Patrick was inspired by the shamrock. He was traveling and happened upon a number of Irish chieftains along a meadow. The tribal leaders were curious about the Holy Trinity but didnt really understand it. So he bent down, picked a shamrock, and showed it to them, and explained how the three leaves are part of the one plant, just like the Holy Trinity. Three Persons...Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, all part of one Supreme God.
