(Montgomery Advertisers Brad Harper writes:) Montgomery is one of the South’s top 10 success stories when it comes to economic development strategies, according to a trend-tracking magazine and website. In its latest issue, Birmingham-based Southern Business & Development ranked the Capital City as one of “the shining examples of economic development that’s working in the South.” It’s the only Alabama city on the list, which includes areas such as Dallas-Fort Worth, Baton Rouge, La., and Columbia, S.C. The ranking is “based on their performance in recent deals,” publisher Mike Randle said. The article notes that new and existing industries have made more than $1 billion in capital investments and created more than 5,700 jobs in Montgomery over the past five years.
