MOTHERHOOD -A THANKLESS JOB......BY DESTINY IHUOMA CHINENYE OPARAH(Ms)16/8/2014. Today being Saturday the day that l lay back to reminisce about life and the week long activities and to make sense of the troubles which we humans undergo and undertake in our life time . l came to this conclusion that motherhood is a thankless job. l once posted a poem on my blog titled Motherhood, written by me and l described motherhood in that poem as a journey to nowhere , yet still undertaken.nevertheless please dont get me wrong. l am a mother of a teenager , She is eighteen years so l know what l am speaking about. Motherhood is an onerous task bestowed upon you by mother nature because as soon as you concieve that child in your womb , all of lifes ambition and dreams thins into oblivion and all you think of from the first month of conception till the bundle of joy is handed to you on the ninth month is all about the baby. You prepare for her arrival and when he or she finally arrives,all activities and plans are geared towards his or her comfort and all through the years of childhood through adolescence , its all about her comfort , her pleasures , her education , her joy and gladdness that you barely remember yourself . you loose yourself in the midst of all these. Motherhood is a journey indeed. Motherhood a thankless job it is , who says thank you to you ? All the mother does is to give of herself , give of her time give money , give so much love and care , give so much forgiveness and understanding , give all until there is nothing more to give. And this child? Will she appreciate all you have done? There are no guarantees. You would be lucky if she realises that you gave up so much to bring comfort and opportunity to her , you would be lucky , if she says Thank you mum , you are such a Gem, you did be lucky if she sent you flowers and cards during important days like your birthday ,Christmas , Mothering Sunday and Easter celebrations , you did be lucky if He or She remembers . Many Mothers have been heart broken on account of thanklessness especially from their Children . Many Mothers have had to raise their kids alone without help and without a partner or support and so no one ever says thank you to them. Well if you belong to that category of mothers , take solace in God. He will repay you for all your troubles in raising that child or children , so that even though Motherhood be a thankless job , your maker who gave you that child or children as the case maybe , will thank you for a job well done , for helping nurture another soul The Lord God will pat you on the back and say well done , good and faithful servant of mine , and you wont feel the sorrow that Motherhood is indeed a thankless job when they grow up and they simply walk away.
