MOURINHO AND THE MISTAKES OF BENCHING MIKEL. In as much as Jose Mario Dos Santos Felix Mourinho is my mentor in the game of football,i see no reason why Matic,Luiz,Ramires should play ahead of Mikel Obi.AVB in trying to build a new CHELSEA,began playing Romeou instead of Mikel but latter realized his mistakes.The coaches that were playing Essien instead of Mikel realized latter that Essien was more of an attacking midfielder than defensive.A question that should come to our mind always is,what is the primary role of a defensive midfielder? Is it to score goals? No.Makele/Fernando Redondo and Mascherano(in Liverpool) were the worlds best defensive midfielders in there days.How many goals did they score? Westerhof preferred Oliseh to Mutiu in that position because of the formers destructive ability.Ezeugo Emeka was once drafted to that wing and sports analysts began calling Ezeugo the destroyer Westerhof wanted.The primary work of a defensive midfielder is (1) To protect his central defenders (2) To frustrate a build up attack of his opponents.(3) To win the ball and release to his creative midfielders. (4) To give a long pass to a well positioned striker occasionally. No wonder they are called the dirty jobbers and are often booked.Having analysed these things,youll find out that Mikel Obi is ahead of Matic,Luiz and Ramires.Why then does Mourinho bench him? Why then will some Nigerians say that Mikel is finished? I have written to CHELSEA FC and ill keep e-mailing to my darling club about this costly mistake of leaving Mikel out of the scheme of things.
