MOVIE: LAST VEGAS: When aging Lothario Billy decides he is going to wed his 30 year old girl friend he contacts his lifelong friends from when they called each other the “Flatbush 4”. They decide to have a bachelor party weekend before the Las Vegas wedding. Two of them are Archie (Morgan Freeman) who after a stroke is having every activity curtailed by his son & Sam (Kevin Cline) who is languishing in Florida in a retirement community with his wife. They immediately decide they are in but have to convince the fourth member of the group Paddy (Robert De Niro) to come. Paddy is not only a recluse since his wife’s death but he holds a grudge against Billy. But finally they are all together for a “wild” Las Vegas weekend where they encounter aging lounge singer Diana (Mary Steenburger). Soon they are involved in one escapade after another culminating in a wild casino penthouse party. Along the way they reflect on their own lives & futures. For anyone over 60 this is a spot on lighthearted funny comedy with the appropriate amount of searching for meaning in life. For anyone under forty it will seem like a tranquil remake of “Hangover” (In this version we get a 50Cent cameo instead of Mike Tyson). So if you are in the latter age group wait 20 or so years to check it out. Since I’m in the former group I enjoyed it. 2.5 STARS
