MOVIE PREMIERE - THURSDAY 22 MAY 2014 - DIVERGENT (M) Presented by Roma Stage College V.I.T.A.L. Program Drinks and Nibbles provided commencing at 6pm at Cinema Roma. Tickets available at Roma State College or at Cinema Roma on the night. V.I.T.A.L. stands for ‘Values Integrated Through Action-based Learning’ Program Nine Roma State College boys have been selected to be involved in this program. A main focus of the program is becoming productive members of the community. To work towards this goal, the group has looked out into their communities and identified two causes that they will focus on helping to provide support for. The first being Tracey Warren and her fight against a rare blood disease, aHUS, which has the potential to damage her vital organs; and secondly, the seemingly ever present effects of drought. Fundraising activities have been planned in order to achieve their aims. Please come and support these students in achieving their aims by attending a fundraiser or making a donation at Roma State College Senior Campus. About the movie: The new big thing in books and movie follow-ons is the Divergent series. Like the Hunger Games, the books number three and follow the story of a teenage girl, Tris, who lives in a post apocalyptic earth (formerly Chicago) and must fight her way to find out the truth that the ruling junta are keeping from the population. There are four factions in this re-born society and aptitude tests at the age of 16 determine where the citys citizens will end up. Tris, who show aptitude for more than one faction, is recognised as dangerous to the society, a Divergent, and she must work to hide her true nature. She is supported by Four, an instructor in her chosen faction, with whom she develops a special relationship, and some friends who are like minded. Together they must work to undermine the savage plans of the leaders and find out the truth about their ancestors. A good cast (Theo James, Kate Winslet, Ashley Judd) make the film easy to watch and while it is similar to a Hunger games plot, there is enough that is new and a mystery about the society origins that makes for an interesting series. The second in the series will be completed this year, due for release in 2015.
