Stay in Salzburg until Oct. 24, 1772 Friday 15 December 1780 Munich: Mozart is visited by the violinist Michael Esser The violinist Michael Esser (1737 - 1795) played at a concert in Salzburg on December 9th. Leopold Mozart wrote to his son in Munich on the same evening, praising his technique and announcing his upcoming visit: I write this Saturday the 9th at 9:30 p.m. as M. Esser gave a concert at the theater this evening. Forty f remained for him, he came with such diligence and he will surely visit you. He is a funny and crazy old fellow. But he plays |: when he plays seriously :|with the most confident and astounding execution and also has a beautiful adagio which only few strong allegro players have. But when he starts to joke around, he plays on the G-string alone and with the greatest of skill. By striking the strings with a wooden pencil, he performs pieces with astounding speed and accuracy. He plays the viola damore quite charmingly. What touched me and what first appeared childish was his whistling. He whistles recitatives and arias as competently as any singer with great expression, polish, tremolo, trills and so forth, in short, his whistling is really to admire and he even accompanies himself pizzicato on the violin . Thursday 15 December 1785 Vienna: Participation by Mozart in a performance in the lodge „Zur gekrönten Hoffnung” (Crowned Hope lodge) Wednesday 15 December 1790 Vienna: Mozart bids farewell to Joseph Haydn, who had been invited to go to England and was departing for London The two contemporaries see one another for the last time on this day
