MP WANTS MORE SUPPORT TO SALWACO By John Mansaray Hon. Sualiho M. Koroma, Chairman Water Resources Committee Hon. Sualiho M. Koroma (SLPP) of Constituency 067, Bo City, who doubles as Chairman Water Resources Committee in Parliament, is appealing to the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development for additional budget allocation to utility service Institutions, such as the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) for having taken additional responsibility to supply water to the quarantined homes countrywide. The MP made this plea yesterday at the Well of Parliament while contributing to the debate for the ratification of loans and grants agreements signed between the government of Sierra Leone and African Development Bank. According to the MP, the call for additional budget to SALWACO is to enhance effective service delivery scheme because since the outbreak of the Ebola virus in the country, SALWACO has championed the supply of clean and safe drinking water to quarantined homes. This move he went on, is geared towards preventing quarantined family members going out and mingles with others. He informed colleague MPs that in the process of doing this, SALWACO management with the desire to contribute in its little way in preventing the further spread of the virus from the tight budget allocation, formed its task force that is charged with the responsibility of making water available at all times to these quarantined homes. He furthered that apart from SALWACO, there are other utility service institutions that are desirous to contribute in the fight but could not because of limited resources. Hon. Koroma concluded by asserting that as water is life, SALWACO as an institution established by an Act of Parliament, needs to be provided with more resources to save lives.
