MP calls for better use of Clares Law after just 11% of Merseyside requests granted Only around one in 10 women’s requests for information about their partners’ violent history is granted in Merseyside. Under Clare’s Law – named after 2009 murder victim Clare Wood – police forces can be asked to reveal domestic violence convictions to an offender’s new partner. But fresh figures show officers in some parts of the country are much more likely to provide this information than others. In Greater Manchester these disclosure requests are granted in more than 60% of cases while in Merseyside the figure is 11%. A leading MP says these statistics show police forces need to be given more guidance on how to use Clare’s Law.
