MPAC - I just finished speaking with an employee of MPAC and voiced my concerns to her about the current status of voter kits in Pembroke - some have them, some do not, some have them who should not have them and that in my opinion they were not delivered to potential voters in a timely fashion. She said that their lists were updated when houses were sold but could not explain their method of determining tenants. I explained to her that with our proximity to CFB Petawawa and having a large post secondary population, tenancies changed regularly. She went on to explain that this was a new initiative this year - that each municipality was advised to widely advertise the voter lookup online link so people could verify that they were on it. That link was put on the city website but I have no recollection of it being advertised anywhere else. I told her that I, as a general rule have no reason to visit the city website on a regular basis and that it was not exactly what I would refer to as user friendly. She confirmed that municipalities were made aware of possible irregularities months ago and that most made the effort to correct them to the best of their ability. It appears obvious that Pembroke did not. She provided me with a contact name - the MPAC office has a Municipal Relations Representative - Marcel Clement - 613 735-8467 and that perhaps he would be of some help. Mike Ogilvie or Sandra Turcotte would either or both of you volunteer to contact him. Both of you have been involved in many elections and are much more knowledgeable than any other group member.
