MPD continues search for suspect in weekend armed robbery - By Tammy R. Lawson, Central Iowan Marshalltown police are still searching for a third suspect after arresting two others early Saturday morning in connection with an early-morning armed robbery. Cedano Thomas, 21, and 19-year-old Sadie Baxter, both of Marshalltown, were arrested for their alleged connections to the case. Officers just after 1 a.m. responded to the North 3rd Avenue Kum & Go Convenience Store after the suspect, who police are seeking, was described as a black male wearing a black ski mask, pants, hoodie and carrying a red backpack. The employee said the man entered the business armed with a knife, then fled by foot with an undisclosed amount of cash and cigars. Meanwhile, a white Chevy Blazer was spotted in the vicinity matching the description of one claimed to be used in Tuesdays armed robbery of Jiffy Convenience Store at 111 S. 3rd Avenue. When an officer, in the 10 block of North 2nd Avenue, tried to stop the vehicle, someone matching the K&Gs employee description jumped from the Blazer and ran. This third suspect is still at large and wanted for questioning in both robbery investigations. Thomas, who was driving, and Baxter, another passenger, were detained and taken to the station for questioning where they were subsequently arrested. In addition, Thomas was charged with driving under suspension and Baxter with allowing an unauthorized person to drive, simple misdemeanors. Each awaited an initial court appearance Saturday, held at the Marshall County Jail. Anyone with information on the robberies at Jiffy and/or K&G is asked to call the Marshalltown Police Department at 641-754-5725.
