(MPI Portal) – To further promote cooperation relation between Vietnam and Japan and widespread dissemination of anti-corruption cooperation between the two countries, in the morning of June 24th, the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) held a Vietnam – Japan Dialogue on the measures against corruption in ODA projects. Photo: Thanh Son (MPI Portal) Attend the Dialogue, on the Japanese side, there were representatives of Japan Embassy in Vietnam and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). On the Vietnamese side, there were representatives of the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Finance, Office of the Government, Government Inspectorate, Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee and press media agencies. Speaking at the opening, Deputy Minister Nguyen Chi Dung said that Japan is still the biggest bilateral ODA donor in Vietnam last years. Japanese ODA supports Vietnam’s socio-economic development, especially developing infrastructure, contributing to poverty alleviation and environment protection. “Vietnam Government affirms the determination to fight against negative action, corruption in using ODA capital generally and Japanese ODA particularly. That is also the purpose of this Dialogue”, stressed Deputy Minister. This Dialogue aimed to review the measures and solutions of prevention, thereby, discussing together to offer solutions to prevent and fight with corruption which could happened in ODA projects. Besides, through this Dialogue, Government representatives of the two countries would discuss on specific measures against corruption in all projects using Japanese ODA in Vietnam, as well as, promote the strategy cooperation relation between the two countries in the coming time. On the Japanese side, Envoy Hideo Suzuki said that in the context of good relationship between Vietnam and Japan, what happened to Japan Transportation Consultants, Inc (JTC) is a pity. Mr. Hideo Suzuki appreciated the close coordination of Vietnam in looking for the truth and giving appropriate and serious resolutions for this incidents. Besides, through this Dialogue, the two sides produced the specific measures to prevent corruption. At the Dialogue, Vietnamese side stated determination on building precautions against arising similar cases and reported the investigation results on the projects related to JTC and Vietnam Railways (VNR). Based on the recommendations of Vietnam and Japan, the two sides discussed main points of the precautions against rising similar cases to ensure appropriate mechanism of implementing ODA projects in the coming time. Vietnam and Japan agreed to coordinate continuously to deploy the measures against corruption and report to the Government of the two countries on this Dialogue’s results in order to maintain available good cooperation between the two countries./.
