MRG308 is Caribous very excellent Andorra, an album which is legitimately psychedelic, in the sense that it feels like moving through altered states, rather than in the played-out sense of garage rock played by musicians wearing tie-dyed shirts. I was a fan of Dan Snaiths since Up In Flames was released under the moniker Manitoba back in 2003, but this record really declared that he was moving up a few notches in terms of his capabilities and ambitions. This isnt just a beat-oriented dream-out soundscape, these are really great, focused pop songs refracted through a mindbending haze. Later records perfected his style even further (and Im very looking forward to his newest, which is imminent), but you cant front on tracks like Melody Day, or Sundialing, or this misty Beach Boys-ish gem. #Merge25
