MS Hamburg duck on the 25th December 2013 MS Hamburg is a 15,000-ton, 420 passenger, luxury cruise ship owned by the Conti Group; and is now operated by Plantours Kreuzfahrten. She was built in 1997, in Wismar, Germany. Her relative size allows her to transit the Great Lakes in North America, which she cruised seasonally between 1997 and 2011 - one of the few modern cruise ships and the only German one able to do so (she will return as ms Hamburg in 2014). However, she is flexible enough to cruise worldwide as well, for example traveling the Mediterranean for cultural cruises with Martin Randall Travel. Her crew complement consists of 170, and her top speed is 16 knots. She was previously known as the Columbus for Hapag-Lloyd, she was since replaced by the Columbus 2 this visit is her first ever visit to Sierra Leone on the 25th December. Plans are in place for MS Hamburg to be frequently visiting Sierra Leone under the umbrella of one of the leading tour operators IPC Travel and Tours. The ship will duck with 380 tourists aboard for different interests: city orientation, heritage sites, Eco tourism history and many more. They will be taken on a conducted tour by professional and certified tour guides.
