MSC sets new world record for largest box ship at 19,224 TEU - by HKSG ENews MEDITTERANEAN Shipping Company (MSC) has seized the crown from China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL) for possessing the worlds largest containership. At 19,224 TEU, the MSC Oscar that is due to make its debut next month on the Albatross service has pushed the 19,100 TEU CSCL Globe off the top spot. The title had previously been held by the worlds largest container shipping line with Maersks 18,270 TEU Triple-E class vessels. Measuring is 395.4 metres long and 59 metres wide with a 16-metre draft, the 197,362 dwt MSC Oscar was built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in South Korea. Sister ship MSC Oliver is scheduled to launch in April.
