MSP is abiding by the decision of Escambia County to keep school closed on Thursday. *NEWS RELEASE April 30, 2014 For Immediate Release Escambia County School Closures Superintendent Malcolm Thomas has made the decision to close the Escambia County School District on Thursday, May 1, 2014. Superintendent Thomas remarked, With the flooding situation, we are proceeding with an abundance of caution. Additional time is required to evaluate roadways and bridges to ensure the safety of students and staff; therefore, we will be closing schools on Thursday, May 1, 2014. Employees and parents are encouraged to remain home and stay off the road. Escambia County Emergency Management continues to ask people NOT to drive if possible. County road crews and engineers must wait for the flood waters to receed before a full safety check of roads and bridges can be completed.
