MTF acting chairman Andrew Munroe said the organisation wanted the western section of the link completed first because councils in the west were crying out for a solution to the number of trucks on their roads. "There are residential streets with 20,000 trucks a day, which is of serious concern," Cr Munroe, the mayor of Whitehorse, said. He said the rail tunnel, which would run from South Yarra to South Kensington, seemed to be supported by councils across Melbourne as train patronage continued to increase.
