MU Professor and FAPRI Director Patrick Westhoff recently returned from South Africa, where he made presentations about the global agricultural market outlook at two conferences hosted by the Bureau for Food and Agricultural Policy (BFAP). Almost 200 people showed up at each event, one in Cape Town and one in Pretoria. Here’s a link to the BFAP website: bfap.co.za/. BFAP grew out of a partnership between FAPRI-MU researchers and a team at the University of Pretoria, but it now also includes researchers at the University of Stellenbosch and at several other institutions in eastern and southern Africa (Mozambique, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya and the Democratic Republic of the Congo). This broader partnership is now known as ReNAPRI, the Regional Network of Agricultural Policy Research Institutes. While in South Africa, Professor Westhoff had discussions with representatives from the UN Economic Commission for Africa and the European Union about ways to expand the efforts. Go CAFNR!
