MUCHEA LIVESTOCK CENTRE CATTLE SALE 17 JUNE 2013 Numbers lifted with the majority being of pastoral origin. Local supplementary fed trade and heavy drafts were in limited supply, but there were good numbers of cows and heavy pastoral bullocks. Overall the quality of the yarding improved on last week, but there were a high percentage of secondary pastoral heifers and steers. Limited numbers of local store cattle were available and met with selective competition. Prices were variable but firm for the majority of the yarding, with cows lifting at times during the sale. Local yearling steers mostly sold to restockers and feeders at slightly dearer prices, with light weights from 150c to 210c/kg. Medium and heavy weights made 140c to 199c/kg to feeders. Pastoral yearling steers made 100c to 153c/kg. Heifers to restockers and feeders mostly made 138c to 188c, with better light weight drafts selling from 179c to 189c/kg. Most medium and heavy weights to feeders made between 150c and 178c/kg. Pastoral yearling heifers made mostly from 100c to 135c, easing 4c/kg. Very limited numbers of trade cattle were offered, with supplementary fed heavy weight steers making 186c to 251c/kg. Trade heifers made 140c to 205c, with better supplementary fed drafts from 159c to 205c/kg. Grown steer numbers increased with most being pastoral supply. The 500 to 600kg export weights made 143c to 163c, to be 11c/kg dearer. Best local heavy grown steers made to 188c, with most pastoral bullocks selling from 143c to 154c, up 6 c/kg. Grown heifers were marginally dearer, with pastoral supplies making from 111c to 146c/kg, up 3c/kg. There were price variations for cows, with heavy cows from 100c to 146c/kg, up slightly for pastoral drafts. Medium weight cows averaged unchanged with prices from 95c to 142c/kg. Light cows were back 10c, selling from 90c to 126c, with plain and poor conditioned cows from 50c/kg. Bull competition remained strong. Heavy weights made 120c to 131c/kg, to ease slightly. Pastoral medium weights made 110c to 150c/kg to be firm. Light weight export bulls made between 160c and 200c/kg, up marginally for local drafts, while pastoral lines were also up ranging from 120c to 199c/kg. SOURCE: NLRS
