MULTAN Addressing a seminar organised by PTI Agriculture Wing South Punjab on issues being faced by the agriculture of South Punjab here on Thursday, PTI Vice Chairman Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the masses extended opportunities to both so-called big parties but they failed to deliver. He warned that a serious water and food crisis was about to hit Pakistan while institutions were heading towards total collapse but the rulers had no realization of this alarming situation. Citing the example of India, he said that she offered subsidy worth billions of dollars to its farmers and purchased 22 different crops from its farmers while on the other hand our farmer was faced with the toughest situation because of unjust increase in prices of agricultural inputs. He warned that trade with India would bring complete destruction to local agriculture. He said that water was not an inter-provincial issues rather it was a bone of contention among Pakistan, Afghanistan and India. He warned that Pakistan would face a severe crisis if India released funds to Afghanistan for construction of dams on Kabul River. He said that our canal system was designed by the Britain for irrigation of 33 per cent land while today over 87 per cent was under cultivation. He said that the country was likely to face massive storms, horrible floods and drought because of its geographic location but the rulers did nothing to cope with coming situation. He said that there was no difference between policies of PPPP and PML-N. He said that it was PTI that raised the issues of common citizens and farmers in assemblies.
