MULTICULTURAL: -Relating to or containing several cultural or ethnic groups within a society (Oxford dic) MULTICULTURALISM: -the cultural diversity of communities within a given society and the policies that promote this diversity. As a descriptive term, multiculturalism is the simple fact of cultural diversity and the demographic make-up of a specific place, sometimes at the organizational level, e.g., schools, businesses, neighborhoods, cities, or nations. (Wikipedia) Thus, foreigners living in Korea are MULTICULTURAL people either they are from the Western countries or from the Asian countries. They are in Korea and somehow, they adapt to the Korean culture and therefore they are part of the multicultural society. MULTICULTURAL FAMILY/FAMILIES: -a family consisting of a marriage immigrant or a person with naturalization permission and a person with the nationality of the Republic of Korea (ROK). ( Source:oneclick.law.go.kr/) Thus, Multicultural families are NOT only the marriage immigrants from SOUTH EAST ASIAN countries. They can be from the western countries who are married with Koreans! There is this notion that multicultural families are the only ones who are from the POOR countries who are married with Koreans which isnt actually pleasant to my ears. The logic is that, not all people from POOR countries are POOR to death and likewise, NOT all people from the rich countries are damn rich!
