MUMIAS 60TH BIRTHDAY EVENTS IN PHILADELPHIA APRIL 24 -26 SATURDAY, APRIL 26 On Saturday, April 26 there will be a Festival of Life Celebration. It will be a reunion of all those who have participated in Mumia support efforts over the past decades, uniting with the young people who have joined and strengthened our movement in recent years. We celebrate the extraordinary life of Mumia Abu Jamal, the amazing and powerful movement we have built over these 32 years which kept the enemy from killing Mumia despite many vicious (and illegal) attempts to do so, and our commitment to continue this struggle for as long as necessary. The program will include performances by Dead Prez, Jasiri X, Immortal Technique, Taina Asili, Dice Raw, Rebel Diaz, Luci Murphy, and IMPACT among others, and a special performance by the Universal African Dance and Drum Ensemble. Speakers, vendors, resource tables, a health pavilion, and workshops will be an important part of the day. Scheduled workshops will include : Know Your Rights, The School to Prison Pipeline, Women and Prisons, Media/Journalism, and Political Prisoners. For those of you driving, the festival will take place in and around the Church of the Advocate, 1801 W. Diamond Street. BUS INFO FROM NYC On Saturday, April 26, the Free Mumia Abu-Jamal Coalition (NYC) will gather supporters on two buses, one from the Post Office at 31st Street and 8th Avenu e and the other from Riverside Church, Claremont Avenue at 120th Street, and ride to Philly for the all-day festival, a huge international block party. Well leave New York at 8 am and leave Philadelphia at about 6:30 or 7 PM for the trip home. Round-trip tickets are $20. For a seat on a bus, send a check or money order made out to FMAJC/IFCO for $20 to FMAJC, P.O. Box 16, College Station, New York, NY 10030. THURSDAY NIGHT, APRIL 24< br> Two days earlier, on Mumias actual birthday-April 24, there will be a gala event featuring CORNEL WEST, a skype call in by ANGELA DAVIS, a call-in from Mumia, the Last Poets, Marvin X, a fashion show, dinner, and much more. Mumia has asked that it be dedicated to the Baraka Family. The cost is $30 per person, and the location is 1016-18 South Street in Philadelphia. Time: 6:30 to 9:30 pm.
